Ralph Gibson

Ralph Gibson Ralph Gibson has a way of photographing the subconscious and sometimes that is appealing to my mind because that is another way I take my own pictures, especially the photos I took in digital because my creative style is very different in digital photography.  After exploring his photo style I have realized a bunch of his photos show depressive thoughts of a human mind or things that can be interpreted as depression which again is something that attracts me visually. I think sometimes I can get bored of the current photography and some of the older stuff has more meaning than back then.  I have been exposed to different types of photography which will continue to boost my skills.

Micheal Keena

Micheal Kenna Micheal Kenna was a minimalist with his photography work and focused on compositions with a long focus. I like his work because he is a minimalist and sometimes the pictures I take are very minimal with the details attached. I have a weird style of photography that I am into because sometimes it can be filled with many things and the photo looks crazy and sometimes I can just focus on one thing and call it a day.  After exploring Micheal I found this photo he took and I found it very interesting as I have suffered with my own depression and anxiety issues and sometimes you feel alone and this picture spoke to me because I do feel alone sometimes but I do realize I have many friends and family members that are in my corner and support me through anything. He has even one of my favorite photographers I have explored so far in this class.

Lee Friedlander

Image
Lee Friedlander Lee was a photographer from the '60s and '70s that focused on shadows through light and composition. Lee's photos were unique because they have such different vibes of what life was like in the 60s and 70s and how he gets his shadows just right. I have inserted a picture I like and I'll explain why I like it. This photo is unique because of the city skyline and how the lines are in the photo, it has a unique way of how the light hits the building but how the darkness of the car is still exposed in a unique way that makes this photo visually appealing. Lee Friedlander has really good way of showing light and composition.

Man Ray

Image
Man Ray In 1922, Man Ray invested his time in making photograms using light-sensitive paper that creates an image using light. Man Ray's photos are unique because of the many objects he inserts on the light-sensitive paper to create a design on the image once it is developed. Man ray has a similar abstract way in all these photos that end up being the same area of creativity.  This photo is unique because of the use of film strips and the exposure some of the photos on the strips that really tie in the theme of what Man Ray really expressed in his photos.

What Visually Inspires Me

What Visually Inspires Me Photography has been something I have adored for a long time and have started taking pictures when I was 13. My digital camera was my 13th bday gift so it inspired me to look through the lens and experience the world from my eyes. Photography is a gift that some people pick up right away and others it's a hobby they have been dying to learn.    What visually inspires me is being able to see the human reactions of people when you take pictures of them. I am very into human photography/ street photography because as a business major, you see a lot of people and meet a lot of people, interact with people so human expressions have always been something that has attracted me to photos. Another thing that visually inspires me is nature sometimes the way nature is is a great background for a photo of a human.  Photography can be expressed in many different ways visually but this is what inspires me and I hope to use that this semester!

Magnum Photographer- Bieke Depoorter

Image
Bieke Depoorter is an interesting photographer. She takes pictures of people sometimes in their element or what they are doing at this moment or sometimes the pictures look staged because that is what she wants them to look like. I like her series about her trip across Russia. She stopped at many forgotten villages on the way and just captured people doing things in their normal habit and used it to promote the lost of the villages as she was on her trip. I love the picture below because she captured a women looking in the mirror at her own beauty which is very sweet to see because even if we forget about somewhere the people are most likely doing the same as we are.

Martin Schoeller

Image
Martin Schoeller Martin Schoeller is a portrait photographer that uses the same lighting and tone in everyone of his pictures. He is normally taking a picture of someone closer up which is still seeing who they are but they all have a similar look. I liked his way of photography because I think you can really see peoples emotions close up. In his work as you look over it the people have different ways of showing emotion but not having it planned emotion. My project is to show emotion in pictures with not knowing exactly what emotion and if it was in complete focus but just to show the current emotion of that person. He has done work for magazine articles which in the cover a lot of people are either very serious or having fun and smiling. I based my work off of him and I think some of my photos are similar in the way he takes pictures but in my own spin on the work. I like how all his photos are for a reason but the face is what matters.
